Fetal medicine also known as maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) involves the treatment of the mother and its foetus before, during, or immediately after pregnancy. It’s also referred to as perinatology.
There are fetal medicine specialists who have specialized knowledge in how to manage high-risk pregnancies whether it’s medical, surgical, or genetic.
The specialists in the field are commonly referred to as MFM specialists that deal with high-risk pregnancy experts. For pregnant women with chronic health problems, MFM specialists care for her body and women who go through unexpected changes through pregnancy such as early labor, bleeding, or high blood pressure.
